Preparing for Christmas sales as a small business owner can be a daunting task, but taking the time to plan out your strategy and make sure you have everything you need can make the process much smoother. We all want to enjoy Christmas, so chasing our tails to make sales is NOT what I want your Christmas to be about!
So, here are seven tips to help you prepare for the upcoming holiday season.
- Start Early:
The holidays can be a busy time for small businesses, so it’s important to start your preparations early. Think about what kind of products you want to offer and order them in plenty of time. If you’re offering deals, start advertising them early to get customers thinking about the holiday season. If you’re a service-based business, know what offers you’re planning to run as early as possible and get selling. I’d recommend having vouchers ready from October and promote them to catch the organised early-birds!! - Update Your Website:
Make sure your website is updated and ready. Add any new products or special offers you’re running, and double-check that all links are working properly. Make sure your website is optimised for mobile devices too, as customers will likely be using their phones to shop. - Stock Up On Supplies:
Make sure you have enough stock of all the necessary supplies, like gift wrapping paper and ribbons, tags, and boxes. And stock up early, before you can’t get your hands on any! - Prepare For Shipping:
If you offer online sales, make sure you have a plan for getting orders out quickly and efficiently. Order any packing supplies you need ahead of time and make sure you have your shipping rates in order. Be VERY clear about when your last date to post will be to ensure they will receive it in time for Christmas. Cut it off early if necessary – it’s your Christmas too – you don’t need the stress! - Promote Your Business:
Take some time to create Christmas-themed advertising materials and promote them on social media, in emails, and on your website. You can also take advantage of any local events or markets to get your name out there. - Get Ready For Returns:
Returns are inevitable during the festive season, so make sure you have a clear return policy in place. Have a plan for how you’ll process returns quickly and efficiently. - Take Care Of Yourself:
Christmas can be a stressful time for small business owners, so make sure you take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, eat healthily(ish), and make sure you have time to relax.
By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared for the upcoming holiday season. With a bit of planning and preparation, you’ll be able to make the most of the holiday season and increase sales for your business.
